July 14, Day 9

Last night, the 4 groups (Hip-hop, Reggae, Classical and Heavy Rock) presented their village to the entire camp. The group that really excelled in portraying their message was the classical group who not only prepared a village depicting the World of classical music but also put on a show of different forms of classical music – opera, ballet, symphony music, … all well presented, with the appropriate costumes to match.

Last night at about 2:00 it began to rain and it hasn’t stopped raining since then. The entire camp is puddles of water, mud and it is cold as well. The entire program for the day had to be changed. The campers were divided into two groups. One group saw a movie while the other group learnt about the “Postcards” in Dom Sierot (Korczak’s orphanage) and then each individual produced his/her own postcard which they can give to any one of the deserving campers.

Tonight’s program was supposed to end with the floating of the handmade boats carrying each person’s wish out on to the lake. A special program prepared by the counsellors will not be taking place due to the weather. Instead we will all gather in the large tent (the “Circus”) to see a movie and to share their feelings in the format of a song or mini-performance.

Another camp drawing to an end. Ten memorable days with an amazing group of kids who made new friends, blended in to all the activities, were full participants, did not complain and are now ready to head home to share Korczakowo with their friends and family.

Thank you Korczakowo. Despite the cold weather we leave with a feeling of warmth.
